SHELF HELP

This is a constantly evolving collection of small artworks displayed on a shelving unit. Compositions are continually rearranged to accommodate the inclusion of new pieces, each developed as a response to a given object or found image, combined to create new hybrid forms.

Familiar images appropriated from popular culture and the history of art are juxtaposed with the discarded objects of everyday life, re-contextualising the commonplace and allowing unexpected, complex and sometimes humorous meanings to arise.

The work aims to bring the heightened quality of art-making to the so-called ordinary, and to blur the distinction between domestic and gallery space.

Renowned artists represented here in this 'mini-gallery' include (L to R starting at the top) Duccio di Buoninsegna, Henri Matisse, David Hockney, Andy Warhol, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and Banksy.

The paintings of both Warhol and Hockney are derived from photographs of each of them posing for the camera, using one of their own paintings as a backdrop. These two pieces form the beginning of a new series depicting famous artists posing with their work. Currently In progress is my painting of Sir Peter Blake standing on his Everybody Razzle Dazzle ferry completed in 2015.
